Rollins School Holiday Party - Friday, December 7, REACH members will sponsor a party for Rollins Elementary School in Aurora to kick off the December holiday season. The hard work at the Duck Race fundraiser raises the money for REACH to buy, wrap and take gifts to every student at Rollins School. Along with gifts, REACH students create and host a holiday party complete with snacks and games for each classroom. The entire school and REACH visitors are filled with the holiday spirit! Flyer 2007 Rollins Flyer Please read the following thank you letter from Mrs. Karen Hart, Principal of Rollins School. Dear Naperville Angels, I always try to write this note in the immediate afterglow of this event while the special moments and comments are still fresh in my mind. I love to eavesdrop as REACH assembles before leaving Rollins. This year I heard, "I love this stuff? They are so cute? One little girl talked to me in Spanish and it was so cool 'cause I could understand her! This was so much fun!" It's my big reward to hear you as happy and excited as you made us. I hope you understand the magnitude of this hour. I know you more than realize the magnitude of the preparation for it. But the event itself is huge and far reaching. Your presence brings more than just presents. You exemplify love, charity, generosity and joy. Rollins children learn from your example. They would like to be just like you when they grow up. What a wonderful goal you've given them. Cool teenagers can bring home a message in an hour that we adults work on teaching all year. The Rollins Staff agrees this was the best party ever. Temporary chaos bursts into total organization as teens take over Rolllins with crafts, games, food and fun. I hope you could feel our appreciation as we offered smiles, bookmarks, songs, and words of gratitude. I hope you knew how hard it was to let you go after only an hour. I hope you could feel a change in your heart from the anxious moment you walked in our door to the relieved moment you left. I hope you took some of us with you into your holiday. We certainly treasure what you brought to ours. Most Sincerely, Karen Hart
Canned Food Donations - REACH members are asked to bring a canned food donation to each REACH Meeting to donate to Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry, a community-based, not-for-profit organization established to provide food and personal care essentials to Naperville residents in need. In 2005, they provided assistance to over 1,500 Naperville families in need. (Nov, March) Absolutely Incredible Kids Day - This special day was created by Camp Fire USA to celebrate youth everywhere by taking the time to write a positive letter. REACH members write letters of encouragement to younger students attending after-school clubs in the Aurora area.
Fundraiser
19th Annual Great Duck Race (May 10, 2008) - Naperville
and surrounding communities have REACH to thank for a fantastic,
family-friendly day packed full of activities at the base of Rotary
Hill near downtown Naperville. The day starts off with
table-top carnival games run by REACH members and volunteers.
Attendees enjoy live entertainment, balloons, face painting and
music in addition to the carnival from 10:00am-noon. After a
quick clean up, the race begins! Hundreds of plastic ducks are
released into the DuPage River and race along the Riverwalk to the
finish line. The first three finishers win cash prizes, then a
variety of other prizes are given out. REACH members and
volunteers work throughout the year to secure area business
donations as well as corporate sponsorships for this event, which is
REACH's only fundraiser. Proceeds support all REACH's service
projects, activities and operational expenses. All REACH
members are asked to sell duck race tickets and volunteer the day of
the race. Each ticket is $5.00, and the top three ticket
sellers (over 50 tickets) will receive
incentive prizes. Tickets will be available for REACH members
to pick up at the March evening meeting and morning meetings in
February, March and April.
*** Need Adult and Student Volunteers *** Contact Becky Rizzuto at beckyrizzuto@yahoo.com if you would like to help with pre-Duck Race planning or volunteer the day of the Duck Race.
